A mother-of-two was stabbed to death with a samurai sword and a meat cleaver at her home in Dublin, detectives believe.

Jean Eagers, 57, died in her home in Blanchardstown on Sunday morning and her 60-year-old husband William has been arrested in connection with her death.

Police stormed the house and overpowered the suspect using Tasers and stun grenades after neighbours had raised the alarm, reports say.

The sword and meat cleaver were recovered from the home and police suspect they were used to kill Mrs Eagers, according to the Irish Mirror.

Mrs Eagers's son reportedly ran for help after witnessing part of the alleged attack on Sunday morning.

Neighbours also raised the alarm after hearing loud noises coming from Mrs Eagers's house and police arrived shortly before noon.

The alleged attacker was injured during a struggle with police and was taken to hospital after being arrested.

According to the Irish Independent, the suspect is Mrs Eagers's taxi driver husband, William Eagers.

Police had to force their way into the home after looking inside and seeing Mrs Eagers injured but finding the door barricaded, according to the Irish Sun.

Paramedics tried to save Mrs Eagers's life at her Willow Wood home but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was later removed to the City Morgue where a post-mortem examination was due to be carried out this morning.

The scene remained preserved on Sunday evening as examinations by members of the Garda Technical Bureau continued.

Ireland's garda police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Dublin politician Ruth Coppinger said the community in the Hartstown area was 'in mourning' after Mrs Eagers's death.

'My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Jean Eagers,' she said.

Local councillor Daniel Whooley said: 'It is absolutely horrible that an incident like this has taken place. I was shocked to hear of the incident and it is awful to think that someone has died in such a manner.

'I never expected something like that to happened around this area. From what I gather from speaking to a number of the locals around the area, we are all a bit shocked.'
