The US President is reportedly considering a second chance for the founder of the world’s first modern darknet market.

Donald Trump expressed sympathy for the Silk Road creator, Ross Ulbricht who is currently serving a life sentence for charges like money laundering through Bitcoin and computer hacking, according to a report published by The Daily Beast.

As per the report, three people familiar with the matter told The Daily Beast that the counsel office of the White House is currently reviewing Ulbricht’s case and President Trump received the details of the case recently. Trump showed sympathy for the current situation of Ulbricht who is serving a sentence without the option of parole.

The article mentioned that the President has not finalized the decision of pardon yet, but Ulbricht’s case is under consideration for the next round of pardons Trump is set to announce before 20 January. Some Presidential advisers are strongly supporting the forgiveness for Ulbricht. Several criminal justice reform advocates including Alice Johnson supported Ulbricht’s Pardon.

“We’re praying and remain hopeful that President Trump will show mercy on Ross, as he has others, and commute his sentence to time served and give my son a second chance at life,” Lyn Ulbricht, mother of Ross Ulbricht said in a discussion with The Daily Beast.

Silk Road Darknet

Trump is planning to pardon the creator of Silk Road Darknet, a platform best known for selling illegal drugs and money laundering through Bitcoin. In 2013, the FBI closed the website and arrested Ross Ulbricht. Ulbricht was convicted of seven charges related to Silk Road, including money laundering through cryptocurrencies, conspiracy to traffic narcotics and computer hacking. Finance Magnates earlier reported about a transaction of 69,370 Bitcoin from an address associated with the Silk Road Darknet.

The US President is considering the name of Ulbricht to give him a second chance in his final weeks at the office before the inauguration of his 2020 Presidential opponent Joe Biden on 20 January.
